GENERATION OF CRACKS IN HIGHWAY EMBANKMENT ON BLACK COTTON SOIL

 This research revealed the crack generation of highway embankment from water losing shrinkage wet black cotton soil (BCS), which is a type with high swell-shrink potential. The road seepage meter was used to test permeability filling materials, replace BCS. moisture content and deflection BCS foundation were measured after rainy season. Based on coupled consolidation theory for unsaturated soil, change in additional tension stress induced by loss simulated Abaqus. results indicated that rainfall seeped into through highly permeable refill materials result expansion decrease strength. After season, tensile caused induces cracking embankment, maximum depth often appears at shoulder highway. deep wide cracks are easy appear low constructed thick under strong evaporation.
